PUCRS integrates international project to reduce carbon emissions
PUCRS Environmental Institute (IMA) is part of the international team linked to the project Change the Climate: Assuring the Quality of Environmental Strategies in Latin American Higher Education. The initiative aims to develop administrative policies with a view to environmental sustainability, in order to reduce the impact of universities on the generation of greenhouse gases and, consequently, contribute to the goals of reducing carbon emissions to be achieved by humanity. The project, funded by Erasmus+, is led by Professor at the University Institute of Lisbon, Vasco Moreira Rato and has Professor Nelson Ferreira Fontoura, director of IMA, as vice-coordinator of the proposal.
The project will receive 943,000 euros in investment, in the consortium formed by 15 institutions, including four European universities and 11 Latin American ones. PUCRS’ budget for the project is 137 thousand euros. The initiative should measure the “carbon footprint” of the University as a whole and develop actions to make PUCRS a reference as a Carbon Neutral University.
